Kermaria-Sulard: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kermaria-Sulard presents its history particularly vividly in the village centre: the interconnected motte complex consists of two artificially raised medieval castle mounds. They were created between the 11th and 12th centuries and are located 60 metres apart. The castle mounds represent the settlement of the Trégor’s oldest lordships.

History

The Motte of Coatellec in Kermaria-Sulard is a circular, artificially raised medieval castle mound with a diameter of approximately 20 metres. It is surrounded by a water-filled moat. A stream forms the water-bearing moat around the northern castle mound, which lies at the confluence of two small streams.

Culture

The Church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Joie was rebuilt between 1884 and 1888 according to plans by the architect Lageat from Lannion. It has eight contemporary stained-glass windows, installed in 2012 and 2021. Surrounded by its cemetery, the church is open to the public.

In the village centre stands the Croix Blanche, a monolithic cross made of grey granite at the intersection of Rue de la Croix Blanche and Rue de la Croix Pavée. Its creation is dated to the period from the second half of the 16th century to the first half of the 17th century. The wayside cross of Fospoul dates from 1824.

The Chapel of Kerelleau has been used as a barn since the beginning of the 19th century. Its Renaissance portal features square piers, two columns with capitals and a triangular pediment; one of the capitals is now destroyed. The Latin inscription "SOLIDEO HONOR ET GLORIA" indicates that the chapel was dedicated to Protestantism, at least in its original use.

Cycling

The cycling tour around Louannec, Kermaria-Sulard and Trézény can be started in any of these three municipalities. It follows a former railway line and returns via a cycle path.
