Uzel: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Uzel combines the history of linen craftsmanship with remarkable historic buildings and hands-on experiences. This connection is presented particularly vividly at the Atelier Musée du Tissage, where the history of the Léauté-Planeix workshops from 1872 to 1956 is presented in a playful and interactive way.

Culture and History

Uzel’s architectural heritage was partly shaped during the development of the linen trade in the 18th century. A historic house at 6 place aux Pots dates from 1788 and was probably commissioned by a linen merchant. Much of its original layout, including the interior panelling, has been preserved.

The Église paroissiale Saint-Nicolas also tells the story of several construction phases. It was built at the beginning of the 17th century; its bell tower was destroyed in 1807 and rebuilt between 1812 and 1818. The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bonne-Nouvelle in Uzel was built at the beginning of the 16th century. Nearby is a devotional fountain dating from the 17th century. The Fontaine Notre-Dame in Uzel was built in 1804.

Cycling

A 37-kilometre mountain bike tour starts at Uzel’s fairground. The River Oust also borders the town and is therefore part of Uzel’s geographical setting.

In the wider area around Uzel lies the ruins of Abbaye Notre-Dame de Bon-Repos. The closed Artothèque de Saint-Brieuc museum is also located there.
