The Abbey of Bon-Repos was founded in 1184 as a Cistercian abbey.

Culture and history

The Abbey of Bon-Repos offers guided tours, exhibitions, artist residencies and events. The Correc manor house is open to the public during the Journées du Patrimoine.

Located in Saint-Gelven, the parish church of Saint-Juvénal was built in 1904 by Jules Morvan and houses a statue of Saint Maudez. The Notre-Dame-des-Champs chapel in Saint-Gelven was built in 1892 on a presumed former pagan place of worship. Its grounds contain the double-sided Calvary, dating from the 16th century, which depicts Jesus on the cross surrounded by the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene.

The Kerdrebuil cross is a granite cross; the carved figures on it appear to date from the 17th century.

Landscape and water

The Nantes–Brest Canal runs in front of the Abbey of Bon-Repos. In the area where the territories of Laniscat, Perret and Saint-Gelven meet, which now belong to the municipality of Bon-Repos-sur-Blavet, the Nantes–Brest Canal passes through the village of Bon-Repos.

On the western side of Lac de Guerlédan, the Liscuis heathlands and the Gorges de Daoulas lie within a Natura 2000 protected area for wild fauna and flora.

The heights of Tregnanton offer views of Lac de Guerlédan; the surroundings are characterised by heathlands, gorse and striking slate formations. Tregnanton is a fishing spot with a boat landing stage.

Paths and orientation

The circular trail Le petit tour de l’abbaye begins at the entrance gate of the Abbey of Bon-Repos and is accessible to everyone. Variant 3 of the Du Liscuis à l’Abbaye route leads to the Abbey of Bon-Repos at the end of the hike and through the history of the village of Bon-Repos and the Quénécan forest.

A tourist information office is located in the lock keeper’s house at Bon-Repos on the Nantes–Brest Canal. The Bon-Repos tourist information office provides bicycle repair kits.
