Culture and History

The Saint Samson parish church in Bobital was built between 1857 and 1862 at a new location east of the former church. It preserves reused gravestones and two wooden statues from the former church. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross, with a single-nave layout and a rectangular chancel lit through a zenithal opening.

Bois-le-Raut is considered the only manor house in the parish of Bobital. The oldest parts date from the 15th century. Originally, the manor house was surrounded by moats and had defensive features such as loopholes and gun ports.

The monumental crosses of Bobital are made of local granite and characterize the rural area. Several crosses stand at crossroads, mark the rural area, and indicate old routes. The wayside cross at La Bellangerie dates from 1899 and was donated by the Blanchard family.

A route of the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela passes through Bobital. At the Bobi’marché, vendors offer meat, fish, cheese, eggs, and other products on Fridays at Bobital town hall square.

The “Autour du Louvre” walking trail leads through hidden landscapes in Bobital between a river and a reservoir.
