Rostrenen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Rostrenen is considered the capital of the Pays Fisel, a traditional Breton region with its own music, dances and costumes. For almost fifty years, the Fisel Festival has brought people, artists and enthusiasts together in Rostrenen around Breton music, dances and culture. The festival includes fest-noz celebrations, concerts, Fisel dance competitions and workshops.

Culture and History

The collegiate church of Notre-Dame du Roncier was built on the site of a chapel that belonged to a wooden castle. Its portal houses twelve polychrome wooden statues of the apostles, carved in 1880 by the carpenter Paul Chamaillard, who was originally from Rostrenen. The interior of the collegiate church is richly decorated with stained-glass windows, paintings and religious furnishings.

The Chapelle Saint Jacques, also known as the Chapelle Saint Antoine, is a stone building dating from the 15th century. Its exterior wall features a bas-relief depicting scenes from the Passion. The two stone statues at the chapel portal, which were beheaded during the Revolution, come from the collegiate church of Notre-Dame du Roncier. The Manoir de Campostal dates from the 16th century.

Landscape and Trails

The walking trail to the Bois de Kerbescont begins in the centre of Rostrenen and leads from the Campostal valley to the Bois de Kerbescont. The Moulin de Kerbescont is a watermill dating from the late 15th century with two water wheels.

The Voie verte V406, a former railway line, connects Carhaix with Saint-Méen-le-Grand and is linked to the entire network of Voies Vertes in Brittany. Local granite, nicknamed “Dents de cheval” because of the characteristic rectangular shapes of its feldspars, is ubiquitous in the Rostrenen landscape.
