Plouaret: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Plouaret, the “Luzel et l'eau” walking tour runs for 4 km through the rivers, streams and mill channels in the surrounding area. Twelve stations with interactive information elements focus on Breton stories, legends and the cultural heritage of Brittany.

Activities

The leisure park in Plouaret includes a play area with an eight-station climbing course. 600 m from the leisure park is a sports complex with a city stadium, BMX track, boules court, mountain-bike trial course and pump track.

A 20 km circular horse-riding route runs through Plouaret and Le Vieux-Marché, showcasing the local heritage of both municipalities. The “Mémoire de pierres” treasure hunt also combines exercise and local history: the 3 km route through the granite massif of Plouaret takes around 1.5 hours. Along the way, it introduces granite blocks that were used for traditional longhouses in the Trégor. The route follows paths and roads and is classified as very easy.

Getting There

Plouaret-Trégor railway station is served daily by TER BreizhGo-SNCF trains on the Rennes–Brest and Saint-Brieuc–Lannion lines. TGV inOui trains on the Paris Montparnasse–Brest route also stop there.

Culture and History

The Church of Notre-Dame-de-Bonne-Nouvelle has been protected as a historic monument since 1907. Its southern porch has housed the Gallo-Roman sculpture of a horseman with a serpent-like body, known as the “cavalier à l'Anguipède”, since 1887.

In front of the Sainte-Barbe Chapel stands a calvary with a base dating from 1612. The Fontaine Saint-Jean was built in 1645 by Jean Kervegan for the lordship of Guernachanay. The devotional spring dedicated to John the Baptist was restored in 2003.

The Maudez Calvary is associated with the now-destroyed Saint-Maudé Chapel. West of this chapel lies the Maudez devotional spring, known as “Feunteun Maodez”. It is recorded in the 1835 land register and has been restored.

Landscape

A notable tree in Plouaret is the Chêne du Pont Blanc oak. Its age is estimated at between 400 and 600 years; it is 20 m tall and has a circumference of 18 m.
