Pléven: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The 200-hectare artificial Lac d’Arguenon is surrounded by woodland. Its diverse flora and fauna include wood anemones, violets and wood hyacinths, as well as cormorants, grey herons and black-headed gulls. The lake is home to pike-perch, large perch, whitefish and carp.

Nature

The Étang de la Nauvinais is located in the municipality of Pléven between woodland and the Château de la Hunaudaye. It was formerly a sand quarry; it was subsequently transformed into a protected natural area for leisure activities and fishing. A landscaped circular path runs along the shore, along with walkways for pedestrians.

Hiking

A signposted, 19-kilometre circular hike around Lac d’Arguenon begins in Pléven. The “Lac et forêt” hike starts in the centre of Pléven and leads to Lac d’Arguenon and the woodland of the Château de la Hunaudaye. It offers views of the lake and passes historical sites. The “Tour du lac de l’Arguenon” hike also begins in the town centre. It follows the paths along both shores of Lac d’Arguenon between Pléven on the left bank and Plorec-sur-Arguenon on the right bank.

History and Culture

The Bourgs Heussais are considered to be the largest early medieval motte dating from the 11th century. The Church of Saint Peter in Pléven was built in 1880–1881 according to the plans of the architect Le Coz. A chalice and a paten in the Church of Saint Peter in Pléven were placed under heritage protection as protected cultural assets on 15 April 1966.

In 1960, the Manoir de Vaumadeuc was restored and opened to the public as a luxury hotel. The family associated with Vaumadeuc continues to restore and maintain this cultural heritage site so that visitors can discover it. A viewpoint near the Barrage de l’Arguenon in the municipality of Pléven offers views of the structure; information panels explain its history, construction and operation.
