Ploubalay can be discovered through specific places: at the polder, along circular trails, in churches and chapels, as well as at the market and through local crafts.

Landscape and trails

The Ploubalay polder lies at the end of the Bay of Beaussais in Lancieux and covers 70 hectares. It is separated from the sea by a 1,800-metre-long earth embankment, which is covered with stones in places. The Polder de Ploubalay circular trail also runs through Ploubalay and is a 4 km hiking route.

The Circuit du Floubalay is an easy 9.5 km circular trail. It starts at the tourist office in Ploubalay and leads through natural and cultural landscapes.

Churches and history

In the centre of Ploubalay stands the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, a large building in the Neo-Gothic style. It was consecrated on 28 October 1877 and was first mentioned in 1163 in a papal bull issued by Alexander III.

The Chapel of Saint Sebastian in Ville-Briand is one of the oldest chapels in the Ploubalay area. It is probably a 16th-century building that was restored at the end of the 19th century. The grounds of Château de la Crochais include a 15th-century manor house. The malouinière La Ravillais was built around 1737 for the knight René-Joseph Le Métaier.

Market and Breton crafts

The Ploubalay market takes place every Friday morning at Place de la Gare in Ploubalay. Baie des Caps represents a craft tradition: since 1986, the company has been making Breton sailor sweaters, city sweaters and accessories in its workshop in Ploubalay, using traditional techniques and inherited know-how.

During the summer school holidays, Baie des Caps offers workshop tours every morning from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
