Gausson combines historic buildings, a quiet and largely preserved natural environment, and events related to hiking, religious tradition, and village life.

History

The present-day building of the Chapelle Saint-Nicolas dates from the 16th century. The chapel is listed as a historic monument and was protected by a listing order dated February 6, 1926. Near the Chapelle Saint-Nicolas lies the Fontaine Saint-Avit, dating from the 15th century.

The Saint-Etienne Church in Gausson was rebuilt in 1905 on the site of the original church; its tower dates from 1711. The former Quatrevaux flour mill, Moulin à farine des Quatrevaux, is also one of the town's historic buildings. It is now used as a residence, built from granite rubble stone and covered with a slate gabled roof. During its restoration as a residence, a small waterwheel with paddles was installed in the millrace.

Nature and Hiking

Gausson offers a quiet and largely preserved natural environment that is particularly suitable for nature enthusiasts.

On May 17, 2025, following the success of the previous year, another 8 km hike was held in Gausson on roads and paths. A public hike with two route options, 6 or 10 km, was also offered on the same day.

Community Life

The Gausson municipal library is open on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and is integrated into the Loudéac Communauté Bretagne Centre library network. Gausson also has an on-demand transport service.

The bread oven in the Vieux-Bourg in Gausson was celebrated in 2025 on the occasion of its 200th anniversary. At the Corpus Christi celebration announced in Gausson for June 22, 2025, there was a procession route decorated with sawdust, floral decorations, and, after Mass, a procession to the grotto. At the Fouée de la Saint-Jean announced for June 21, 2025, in La Jubinière in Gausson, a meal was offered.
