The Atharri route runs for around 1 km along the Nive and passes the Pas de Roland. The Pas de Roland is a natural site on the path along the Nive towards Artzamendi. The Atharri route also includes a viewpoint overlooking a vulture's nest on the opposite side of the gorge. According to local legend, in 778 Roland used his horse to open a passage through a rock.

The route to the Peñas d’Itsusi follows the GR10 to the Méhatché Pass and offers views of the Regata de Aritzacun valley.
Culture and Village History
Ateka is an interpretation centre in the centre of Itxassou, near the village fronton. It presents Itxassou's historical heritage, fauna, flora, gastronomy, cherry-growing culture and natural sites.
The Église Saint-Fructueux is an example of Labourdin architecture and features gilded wood carvings as well as three levels of galleries. It was built in the 17th century. The church can be visited freely and free of charge, and is open year-round in 2026.
The Xapata cherry conservatory was established in 2008 near the church of Itxassou on municipal land. Admission is free. Information panels in the conservatory trace the history of cherries in the village.
Activities and Events
The Centre de Vol à Voile Iribarne Itxassou is based at Itxassou airfield and offers introductory and discovery flights in gliders.
Evasion 64 is a leisure centre in Itxassou for water sports activities. Evasion 64 offers guided rafting trips on the Nive; the meeting point is Base Evasion – Maison Errola in Itxassou.
The Masters d’Itxassou are annual summer matches of barehanded Basque pelota.
