Bidache: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The specific historical features of Bidache include the ruins of the Château de Bidache, which were classified as a historic monument by decree dated 6 May 1942. The entrance has a Neoclassical portal from the late 17th century between two round towers, whose origins probably date back to the 14th century.

Culture and History

Since 26 September 1995, the ground, subsoil, entrance gate and surrounding wall of Bidache’s Jewish cemetery have been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments. Today, the cemetery contains 94 visible gravestones that can be visited.

The local heritage also includes Bidache stone, a very hard limestone with flint veins. Quarry workers call it “la tigne”. The historic site of Abbaye Saint-Jean-de-Sorde is located in the vicinity of Bidache.

Local Life

The Marché Charnegou takes place in the morning on the second Saturday of each month and brings together local craftspeople and producers.

Activities

The Piscine de Bidache has a large pool measuring 25 metres in length and 10 metres in width, with a depth of 1.10 to 2.20 metres. There is also a small pool measuring 8 by 8 metres, with a depth of 0.30 to 0.70 metres, as well as a landscaped relaxation area.

The paved path along the Bidouze is reserved for walking and travel by bicycle. It is suitable for families to cycle and observe birds in the wetlands of the Bidouze Valley.

Signs mark the Bidache heritage trail on every building; the map is available from the tourist office. An individual visit along the Bidache heritage trail takes 60 minutes.

Terra Aventura – Têtu comme un Bidachot is a free, easy, one-hour geocaching activity; a paper version of the route is available from the tourist office.
