Morlaàs: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Morlaàs, the Église Sainte-Foy is a building classified as a historic monument and is considered one of the jewels of Romanesque architecture in Béarn.

Culture

The choir of the Église Sainte-Foy features sculpted capitals depicting the beheading of Sainte-Foy, as well as the famous « piton de Jaca », an emblematic motif of the pilgrimage routes. The church can be visited independently; guided tours are only possible by prior appointment.

The « Balade patrimoine à Morlaàs » is a very easy, 2 km-long walk lasting around two hours, suitable for families and all audiences.

The Halte Saint Jacques offers pilgrims a dormitory with 8 beds, an equipped kitchen, showers and sanitary facilities.

History

The former washhouse on Rue de la Fontaine is the last remaining washhouse in Morlaàs. The Maison de la Baque was formerly owned by the Vicomtes de Béarn and incorporated into the former defensive system of the town of Morlaàs.

Local Life

A market is held every other Friday from 8 a.m. to noon on Place de la Hourquie. In addition, local producers offer regional products and agricultural produce there on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon.

Morlaàs traditionally hosts the « Journée de l’élevage » every two years. The first edition took place on 29 September 1973; the event alternates with the Basque Country.

Nature

The municipal Forêt de Lahitau is located a few kilometres from the centre of Morlaàs, covers 32 hectares and is divided into 22 plots. Local tree species predominate, including English oak, beech, sweet chestnut, field maple and birch.
