The Tlumačov Stud Farm is an important technical monument whose appearance has been preserved from approximately the beginning of the 20th century. Previously, an economic farm dating from the 18th century had been converted into a stud farm. The historical transformation remains evident in the sequence of the economic farm, its conversion and its preserved appearance. The complex is arranged around two large courtyards; together with its important buildings, it was declared a cultural monument on 15 July 2011.

Culture

In the centre of Tlumačov, on the main road, stands the parish church of St Martin of Tours and Sabaria. Its construction is generally dated to the reign of Wenceslaus I from 1230 to 1253, or to the second quarter of the 13th century. It may have been built in the period following the Mongol invasion of Moravia, that is, after 1241. In 1585, the Church of St Martin was extended with a bell tower. After it burned down in 1691, it was restored as early as 1695.

The architectural form of the church is also clearly discernible: St Martin has an oriented layout with a recessed rectangular presbytery and a massive bell tower on the western façade. A Baroque stone crucifix stands in front of the entrance.

Experiences

The Tlumačov Stud Farm offers public guided tours of the historic stables and the buildings belonging to the cultural monument. Carriage rides lasting approximately 60 minutes are also available by prior booking.

For active days, a family-friendly, approximately 12-kilometre-long and flat cycling trip leads from Tlumačov to Kroměříž. The route runs largely away from road traffic. It follows cycle paths and paved roads along the Záhlinice ponds and through floodplain forests along the Morava. In addition, cycle route 5181 runs along the railway line through Tlumačov and onwards towards Záhlinice.

Nature

Tlumačovská tůňka is located on the western edge of Tlumačov, on the right-hand side of the road to Kvasice. The body of water and its immediate surroundings serve as a breeding area for the pool frog, edible frog, common toad, European tree frog, fire-bellied toad and grass snake. In addition, Tlumačovská tůňka protects endangered and legally protected amphibian species, as well as threatened species of freshwater algae and cyanobacteria.
