Sehradice combines musical history, traces of the past and a clearly defined landscape. The village lies in the valley of the Horní Olšava at an average elevation of 316 metres. Culture

The village’s musical tradition is associated with the Maňas name. František Maňas was born in Sehradice and wrote more than 100 dance and light-entertainment compositions. Václav Maňas wrote more than 100 popular compositions for wind and concert bands. Sehradice’s cultural traditions also include the Maňasovy Sehradice music festival.

History

Sehradice was founded along a trade route leading from Trenčín via the Vlárský Pass to Olomouc. In the vicinity of Sehradice, Sehrad Castle, also known as Engelsberk or Tetov, was built above Horní Lhota at the end of the 13th century. At the ruins of Sehrad Castle, the individual ramparts of the complex outer bailey, small surviving sections of wall and a rise where the tower once stood can be seen.

In the centre of Sehradice stands a cross listed as an immovable cultural monument. A historical document is also available digitally: the Municipality of Sehradice digitised the 1936 commemorative book of the Municipality of Sehradice.

Landscape

The landscape of the White Carpathians features flower-rich meadows with solitary oaks, oak-hornbeam forests and mountain beech forests. The agricultural character of Sehradice adds to this landscape. The village is known for growing plums and apples.

Trails and Events

The Literárně-historické toulky Slavičínskem educational trail begins in Sehradice and ends in Luhačovice. It is intended for pedestrians and uses information boards. In the vicinity of Sehradice, a blue-marked hiking trail also leads from a stop to the ruins of Sehrad Castle; the route is slightly less than 2 km long.

Culinary and musical events are also part of local life. The Sehradský Gulášfest reached its third edition in 2025; for an admission fee, visitors could taste and rate all the goulash dishes on offer. The 27th edition of the Maňasovy Sehradice brass band festival in Sehradice was announced for 21 June 2026 at 3:00 p.m.
