Holiday Apartment in Rudimov – Nature and Culture in the White Carpathians

Rudimov lies south of the picturesque Poolšaví, among wooded hills in the valley of the Třešňůvka stream, at an average elevation of 334 metres. The entire cadastral area of Rudimov lies within the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. The landscape of the White Carpathians is characterised by extensive high-trunk orchards with traditional regional fruit varieties adapted to the natural conditions. These meadows also provide a refuge for orchids, specialised insect populations and birds that have been displaced from intensively farmed agricultural landscapes.

Culture and History

Rudimov preserves numerous traces of local history. The traditional craft of animal castration was practised here by almost all adult men at the beginning of the 20th century and has been documented in Rudimov since 1545. The village is home to a wooden log-built bell tower dating from 1780, listed in the register under number 2063. Local cultural heritage also includes a richly carved wooden cross, created in 1820 by a folk artist and listed in the register under number 2064.

The remains of the Slavic hillfort of Gradca lie within the cadastral area of Rudimov, in the Zachrástí–Ploštiny field area. Protected burial mounds are also located in the Gradca, Spalica and Paličky fields. Archaeological finds from the Eneolithic, Hallstatt, Celtic and Early Medieval periods add to this historical picture. The Rudimov memorial to local victims of the First World War consists of an artificially created, pyramid-shaped group of stones made from untreated sandstone blocks of various sizes. It includes a group of figures depicting a woman and a dying soldier. A second war memorial commemorates Romanian and Soviet soldiers who died in an artillery attack near the municipality during the Second World War.

Hiking and Cycling

A yellow-marked hiking trail connecting Slavičín and Bojkovice runs through the cadastral area of Rudimov. Two signposted cycling routes also pass through the area: Route 5054 from Slavičín to Luhačovice and Route 5056 from Bojkovice to Luhačovice. The moderately difficult circular route Ze Slavičína na Petrůvku runs around Rudimov, is approximately 15 kilometres long and has around 238 metres of elevation gain.

Local Products

The agricultural use of the landscape is also part of the village’s history. Numerous farmsteads in Rudimov had fruit-drying facilities. Dried fruit was exported from the village on a large scale, and povidl was cooked in several places. Today, the Maso z lúky / Farma Rudimov shop in Rudimov sells meat, sausages, jerky, dried plums, pears, chutneys, sauces and other local products. Further Discoveries

The aviation museum in Rudimov houses a collection of aircraft and ship models. In July and August, the aviation museum is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. At the entrance to Rudimov, behind the sports complex, there is a biotope or multipurpose pool for swimming. Visitors can also use a self-service buffet at the biotope.
