Holiday apartment in Spytihněv: Culture by the River and Baťův Canal

Spytihněv combines centuries-old history along the Morava River with cultural monuments, waterways and a marked cycle route. The Morava flows south of the village and has shaped life in the surrounding area for centuries. A marked route of the Moravian Cycling Trail also runs through the municipality along the Morava and Baťův Canal. In Spytihněv, river landscapes, regional history and vibrant culture therefore come together in a compact area.

History

An important historical site is the Hradišťsko archaeological site near Spytihněv. Remains of a fortified lowland settlement on the left bank between the meanders of the Morava have been preserved there. The rampart of this settlement is particularly impressive: it is about 160 metres long, about 3 metres high and almost 20 metres wide at its base. Its construction followed an older tradition known from the period of Great Moravia.

The development of the settlement itself is also linked to the river area. It may have been moved to the higher right bank of the Morava in the 13th or 14th century. The earlier settlement had been located near the fortified settlement since the 11th century. Thus, different traces of the area's history stand side by side at Hradišťsko: the fortified site, its traditional construction and the memory of an older settlement by the river.

Culture

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Spytihněv is part of the area's historic character. It was completed in 1712 and consecrated in 1740 by Bishop Jakub Arnošt von Liechtenstein. Inside is an artistically valuable high altar painting by Ignác Raab. The Slovácké hody s právem also hold a firm place in the annual cultural calendar. They are among the highlights of the year and take place on the second Sunday in October.

Water

At the Spytihněv weir, the man-made Baťův Canal branches off from the main course of the Morava with its first lock. An important landing stage is Na Rejdě. It is the home port of the Morava excursion boat, with a capacity of 60 people, and the Kordulka, with a capacity of 11 people. Regular and chartered trips with bicycle transport are available.

During the season, the MORAVA excursion boat operates from the landing stages in Spytihněv, Napajedla, Uherské Hradiště and Uherský Ostroh and carries bicycles. The Na Rejdě landing stage also offers refreshments at the traditional Fischerbašta Na Rejdě, an exhibition about Baťův Canal, toilets, showers and other visitor facilities. Visitors can rent seven houseboats, motorboats with outboard engines and traditional canoes there.

Nature

Around Spytihněv are bodies of water covering about 30 hectares that were created through gravel extraction. They can be used for swimming in summer. From spring to autumn, the bodies of water created through gravel extraction around Spytihněv also offer opportunities for sport fishing. The changing seasons are therefore reflected in the different uses of these artificially created bodies of water.

Leisure

The Skleníky Recreation Area in Spytihněv includes a swimming pool that is open for a fee to both overnight guests and the general public. During the summer months from June to September, it has a small paddling pool, a slide and a water jet.

The same complex also has adventure mini-golf with a course and several terrain obstacles. Clubs, balls and scorecards are lent out according to the bar's opening hours. In addition to the bodies of water and canal trips, the leisure activities therefore also include a separate facility with a swimming pool and mini-golf.
