Holiday apartment in Hulín – History, Nature and Events

Hulín preserves an important testimony to its early architectural history with the Romanesque portal of the Church of Saint Wenceslas. The portal is the most significant and valuable surviving element of the remains of the Romanesque church building of the Church of Saint Wenceslas and dates from the first half of the 13th century.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Wenceslas was founded approximately in the first quarter of the 13th century. Originally, it was a single-nave Romanesque building with an apse. The development of the town is also documented in writing at an early stage: the first written mention of Hulín’s existence dates from 1224, when the Bohemian King Přemysl Otakar I came there.

Around the 1290s, Hulín’s administrative centre was extensively rebuilt under Dětřich, Bruno’s representative. The stronghold was converted into a castle, while the entire complex was fortified with ramparts and a moat. Thus, the site’s ecclesiastical architectural history and the development of a fortified administrative centre are closely connected in time.
