Holiday apartment in Mrlínek: Culture, Sports and Nature

Mrlínek, formerly known as Mrlín, is first mentioned in 1301. The local folklore includes the legend “How They Greased the Earth’s Axis in Mrlínek.” It is recorded in a local chronicle that has been maintained since 1927. This historical tradition and the facilities found in the village today create a multifaceted picture that brings together history, community life, events and the landscape.

Several facilities give the village a clearly recognizable sporting profile. The Lukostřelecké cvičiště archery range has ten targets for archery at distances of 25 to 100 metres and is managed by the Mrlínek Archers’ Club. At the entrance to Mrlínek is the Kynologické cvičiště dog-training ground, with facilities for dog training and a clubhouse for 30 people. The Fotbalový stadion football stadium is located in the Pod Duby natural area and has a stand for 100 spectators. The Areál Pod Duby is also located there, in a natural amphitheatre; its facilities include a dance floor and shelters for musical performances. The Tenisové a volejbalové hřiště has two asphalt tennis or volleyball courts. Their use can be arranged with the local tennis section.

Culture

Local event culture takes a variety of forms. The “O pohár zemské osy” football tournament is a long-standing event in Mrlínek. Every year, the local hunting association organizes the “Pytlácká noc” in Mrlínek. It includes an evening of dancing, a raffle and refreshments. Another named testimony to the village’s history is the Kříž naproti žalovu memorial near Mrlínek. It is a stone crucifix erected in 1897 by the local married couple František and Petronela Vávrovi.

The local cemetery in Mrlínek is also one of the clearly located historical sites. It was established in 1938 on a hilltop, about 250 metres from the village’s last houses.

Nature

The Obecní rybník pond lies in front of the entrance to the Bažantnice forest, on a path that continues to Bystřice. It helps retain water in the landscape and serves as a habitat for birds. Several named elevations also lie around Mrlínek: Kelčský Javorník mountain is in the vicinity, as is Holý vrch mountain. Zadní vrch mountain, by contrast, lies in the wider regional surroundings.
