Holiday apartment in Jarohněvice: Culture and Landscape

In Jarohněvice, traces of very early settlement meet distinctive village monuments and a clearly defined landscape setting. Visible remains of a semicircular rampart and ditch, associated with the Lusatian Urnfield culture, are still preserved in the area of the village. The search for historical traces therefore begins not with a single building, but with the terrain itself.

Landscape

Jarohněvice lies on the southern slope of the shallow valley of the Kotojedka and at the same time on the edge of the fertile Haná region. The first hills of the Chřiby area rise from the edge of Haná. The Kotojedka serves repeatedly as a spatial reference point: its valley shapes the location of the village, its course can be seen from the fortification at Obora, and at the lower end of the village a bridge spans the stream.

Culture

The fortification on the slope of Obora, also called Hvězda, offers a view of the course of the Kotojedka. Early La Tène-period pottery finds with stamped decoration come from there. East of Jarohněvice, the Hvězda woodland area also contains an early medieval burial mound field. On the route through the Obora (Hvězda) forest, the Mohylník burial mound field lies at the edge of the forest; from there, it is still about 400 metres to the railway station in the direction of Jarohněvice.

Among the smaller memorials is a wayside shrine near a stream on the road from Jarohněvice to Šelešovice. It was probably erected in memory of the unfortunate death of Ondra, the Jarohněvice shepherd, in a brickyard in 1700. At the lower end of the village, a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands by the bridge over the Kotojedka.

In the Přední díly field area, a stone cross with a relief of Saint Donatus stands at a crossroads of field paths. In the village itself, the bell tower stands on a small rise at the widest part of the village green along the road. The municipality erected it in 1740 or shortly beforehand. Also on the village green, by the road near house number 23, stands a statue of the Virgin Mary.

Getting around

Buses run from Jarohněvice, making connections in the direction of Kroměříž possible. Cycle route number 5020 runs through the village cadastral area.

Event

The cultural event “Jarohněvické dvory” was named with the aim of being held annually.
