Rajnochovice combines traces of historic timber extraction with views, signposted hiking trails and protected nature. In the village and its immediate surroundings are a former forest railway, churches with documented architectural and cultural history, and the Sochová Nature Reserve with forests and geological formations.
Culture
A prominent sacred landmark is the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and Saint Anne (“Kostel Narození Panny Marie a sv. Anny”) in Rajnochovice. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and was built from 1711 to 1716 following the decision of Cardinal Wolfgang ze Schrattenbachů. In addition, the parish church “Kostel Narození Panny Marie Rajnochovice” offers free tours of the nave and presbytery as part of the cultural project “Otevřené brány”.
Forest railway and water management
The archiepiscopal forest railway “Arcibiskupská lesní železnice” tells the story of the area’s economic history. From 1905 to 1921, it transported roundwood from the Kelčský Javorník area and the Podhradní Lhota forest district to the steam sawmill in Rajnochovice. Today, the Rajnochovice forest railway runs along a 300-metre route; the ride takes around 10 minutes. Outside announced public events, visits to the forest railway grounds and rides on the railway can be arranged for individuals and groups.
The restored Klauza water-retaining structure in Rajnochovice is also part of the historic use of the forests. It was formerly used to retain water for floating timber. The structure can be visited year-round by cross-country skiers, skiers, cyclists and hikers.
Hiking and views
Kelčský Javorník adds elevation to the area around the village: its observation tower is 35 metres high and offers panoramic views in all directions. Admission is free year-round, subject to current weather conditions. A green-marked hiking trail leads from Rajnochovice to the summit of Kelčský Javorník.
Another destination is located in the Sochová Nature Reserve. It lies approximately 3 kilometres south-southwest of Rajnochovice and can be reached from Rajnochovice via a red-marked hiking trail.
Nature
The Sochová Nature Reserve includes fir-beech forests, geological formations and pseudokarst phenomena. The animals found there include fire salamanders and common frogs.
