Holiday Apartment in Prasklice: Křéby and Haná Culture

Prasklice combines a varied hilly landscape with remarkable traces of history, faith and regional everyday culture. Křéby in Prasklice is both a national nature monument and a Bronze Age hillfort. Together with the parish Church of St. Anne, the “Horákův statek” Municipal Museum and preserved Haná farmsteads, this creates a place with several distinct perspectives.

Landscape

Prasklice lies on gentle slopes in a varied hilly landscape with low ridges and trough-shaped valleys. The Švábský potok stream flows through the village and joins the Tištínka. Křéby is also part of the landscape around Prasklice: the archaeological site is an elevated settlement of the Únětice-Věteřov type dating from approximately 2000 to 1500 BC.

Culture

The “Horákův statek” Municipal Museum in Prasklice opened on 10 May 2025. Its archaeological and natural history exhibition is dedicated to the important Křéby site. The ethnological exhibition covers the history of Prasklice and the everyday life of earlier generations. Exhibits include a classroom, parts of the original church furnishings, traditional crafts and household objects.

The parish Church of St. Anne developed from a chapel built in 1852 and consecrated in 1857. Between 1872 and 1891, it was rebuilt into the present-day church. Inside are Hromádek’s 1854 painting of St. Anne and wall paintings by František Šenar from 1908. Several preserved farmsteads in Prasklice showcase the folk architecture of Haná; many buildings retain original architectural details such as windows, doors, gates and façade profiles.

Routes

The two-metre-wide asphalt cycle route from Morkovice to Nezamyslice is open to traffic in both directions and is 11.6 km long. It is suitable for cyclists and inline skaters and leads via Uhřice, Prasklice and Koválovice to Nezamyslice. A farm track leads from the cycle route to Křéby; the site can be reached on foot or by bicycle. A Stations of the Cross with wooden crosses also leads to the pilgrimage site of Křéby.

Traditions

PRAGULÁŠ is a recurring competition in cooking goulash in a cauldron in Prasklice, with a public tasting. In 2024, 12 teams competed and many visitors took part. PRAKOŠT, a tasting of slivovitz and fruit brandies in Prasklice, is also held regularly; the 8th edition took place in 2024 with 36 samples.

The “Prasklický železný hasič” competition was held for the 13th time in 2024. The Prasklice parish organises Fatima pilgrimages to Křéby. The traditional Prasklice Masopust custom “Vodění medvěda” is also documented for 2026; 14 February has not been confirmed as the date.

Time cards for fishing at Prarybník can only be purchased at the Prasklice Municipal Office.
