Holiday apartment in Žeranovice: Castle, Hrádek and countryside
Žeranovice lies in the foothills of the Hostýnské hory on the border between Haná, Valašsko and Slovácko. Natural landforms, ecclesiastical landmarks, sculptures and historic buildings are among the distinctive features of the village.
Countryside
Žeranovice lies in a varied landscape, partly on a hill and partly in a valley. The Žeranovka stream flows through the village, while the Židelná stream touches it on its eastern side. The Hrádek area is also connected with this topography: today, it can be reached via a path running from the west along the edge of the valley.
Culture
The present-day building of the Church of St Lawrence in Žeranovice was solemnly consecrated on 21 October 1900. The village’s history also includes the former windmill near Žeranovice. It stood until 1935 and was dismantled because of its considerable deterioration.
Two sculptures retain their own dates and status information. The statue of St Joseph was created in 1759, remodelled in 1920 and has been a cultural monument since 3 May 1958. The statue of St Vendelin is a late Baroque sculpture dated to 1760 and has also been a cultural monument since 3 May 1958.
History
The Hrádek fortified site is a small, well-preserved and clearly recognisable remnant in the terrain of a fortified feudal manor. The core is surrounded by a ditch 20 to 25 metres wide, which is supplemented on the outside by a low rampart.
Despite numerous alterations, Žeranovice Castle retains several original architectural elements, including stone hipped-roof vaults in the cellar rooms and a remnant of the original entrance to the former fortress. The Seilern family gave the castle its present Neo-Gothic appearance. Today, it houses the municipal office, a library, a hall for social events and, on the ground floor, a restaurant.
