Holiday apartment in Nová Dědina: Chřiby Nature Park and historic paths

Nature and paths

The entire area of Nová Dědina lies within Chřiby Nature Park. Between this natural setting and the local paths, several forms of transport come together: the “Stezka Nové Dědiny” is a 6.9 km-long, yellow-marked path. In addition, the marked paths of the “Stezky Branou do Chřibů” project pass through Nová Dědina. These paths are intended for hiking, running, Nordic walking and mountain biking.

Another link between the landscape and history is formed by Tabarky. An educational trail leads to the clearing where the burial mounds of Tabarky are still clearly visible. The early medieval burial mound field is a burial ground with evidence of inhumation burials. Fifteen burial mounds are still visible on the site today; most show traces of earlier investigations.

The path network around Tabarky also contains specific points of orientation: On the route from Tabarky, an asphalt road marked as a cycle route connects at the Nová Dědina tourist shelter near a crossroads. There is also a large local car park on the road towards Nová Dědina near Tabarky.

Culture and history

In the cemetery of Nová Dědina, the “Obecní zvon” bell is now housed in the bell tower. Its history can be precisely classified in terms of time and craftsmanship: it was cast in 1839 in the workshop of Leopold František Stanke from Olomouc. The bronze bell is 43 cm high and has a lower diameter of 49 cm.

Another local landmark is the “Sukovitý kříž”. It bears a black cast-iron corpus of Christ and is also called “černý kříž” by local people. A new wooden “Dřevěný kříž” was erected in 1862 in the centre of Nová Dědina in front of house no. 7. This “Dřevěný kříž” stood by the forester’s hut in Zelnice and is marked on old maps from 1834. The linden trees planted around the “Dřevěný kříž” are still standing there today.

Thus, different historical traces lie side by side in Nová Dědina: the bell in the cemetery, the two crosses with their own names and traditions, and the burial mound field of Tabarky with its mounds that remain visible. Each place retains its own history and context.
