Holiday apartment in Kvasice – castle park, churches and historic paths
Kvasice combines castle history, sacred art, a small museum and signposted paths to create a varied local character. At its centre is Kvasický zámek: its transformation from a castle into a chateau began in the last quarter of the 16th century. As a Renaissance chateau, it had multi-storey arcades and a tower above the new passageway.
Culture
The churches, too, preserve notable evidence from various periods. The Křížová cesta in Kvasice is designated as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The nave of the Hřbitovní kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie was originally built in the Romanesque or pre-Romanesque style. Inside, Renaissance frescoes of Saint Wenceslas and Saint George, as well as a two-part cycle depicting the martyrdom of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, have been preserved.
The church known as “Farní kostel římskokatolický” is a late Baroque church. It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and Saint John of Nepomuk. The main altar features a painting by Václav Vavřinec Reiner; Ignác Viktorin Raab also contributed to the pictorial decoration.
Another cultural site is the Kvasické muzeum. It is located in two rooms on the ground floor of the Kvasice municipal office. Costumes belonging to a Haná family are displayed there. The exhibitions also focus on the activities of local associations, the history of amateur and puppet theatre, and the local churches and chapels.
History
The development of Kvasický zámek can be seen in its former appearance: in the last quarter of the 16th century, the castle was transformed into a chateau that took the form of a Renaissance chateau with multi-storey arcades and a tower above the new passageway. Thus, Kvasice brings together historic architectural forms, religious art, and local association and theatre history.
Paths
Stezka po stopách historie Kvasic is a 2.5-kilometre-long, green-marked educational trail with ten stops. It starts at náměstí Antoše Dohnala by the old town hall. A longer route is the red-marked “Kolem Kvasic” trail: it is 11 kilometres long and also includes a walk through the castle park.
Kvasice is one of the places connected by the local Stezky severními Chřiby trail network. In addition to hiking, most routes in this network are suitable for mountain biking, running or Nordic walking. This means that differently named and marked forms of travel exist alongside one another within the same trail system.
Nature
Kvasický zámek lies in the middle of a park in the heart of Kvasice. The chateau can normally be visited from the castle park; the park is accessible year-round. The park is therefore both part of the chateau’s surroundings and part of the route of the 11-kilometre circular “Kolem Kvasic” trail.
