Holiday apartment in Sulimov: Hiking Trails and Viewpoints

Sulimov combines a distinctive village character with paths leading to viewpoints and remarkable examples of regional culture. The 971 m-long linear village stretches across an elevation difference of 66 m between the upper and lower parts of the village. In the upper part, the buildings open out into a village green, where the bell tower stands. The statue of Saint Anne (Socha svaté Anny) is also embedded in the slope there. It was erected in Sulimov in 1944 and forms a prominent landmark of the village.

History

The bell tower (Zvonice) in Sulimov was built at the beginning of the 19th century. A registered major renovation was carried out in 1933, while the most recent structural alteration took place in 1984. May devotions have been held at the bell tower again since 1997. Another visible sign of the village’s history is the Zapletalův kříž: it was erected above Sulimov in 1906 and is now located at the windbreak. It was completely renovated in September 2016. This included creating a new replica of the figure and a new cross made of Hořice sandstone with a figure of Christ.

Traditions and Culinary Delights

Local customs also preserve tangible traces of the past. As late as around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, traditional dress was worn in Sulimov, longest by women. Sulimov also has a Moravian-Slovak dialect. The annual “Velký sulimovský košt slivovice”, held in a pub at the end of January, combines local tradition with slivovitz. The event is a tasting accompanied by a competition for the best sample of the respective season. As early as 1906, a distillery for producing slivovitz was built in Sulimov at the lower end of the village near St. Trojice.

Hiking Trails and Views

For walks and longer tours, the “Stezky severními Chřiby” trail network is available, with information boards, hiking trail signs, viewpoints and benches. In some places, it also includes educational elements for children. In the immediate vicinity of Sulimov and Karolín, a viewpoint is located along a windbreak and also serves as a junction for local hiking trails. From there, views extend to the White Carpathians, the Zlín Region and the surrounding area of this section of the trail.

A short circular trail runs for just under 5 km through Sulimov and offers three viewpoints along the way, with views of the Hostýnské vrchy and the Vizovické vrchy. A longer, 10 km route connects Sulimov, Lubná and Vrbka. It passes through interesting landscapes and offers viewpoints and forest paths; there is also a possible turn-off to a burial mound site.

The residents of Sulimov use bus services for journeys to Kroměříž, Kvasice, Otrokovice and Zlín.
