Culture and history

The Hanácké slavnosti have been held in Chropyně since 1985 and have taken place every odd-numbered year ever since. The established rhythm is therefore a specific point of reference in time for anyone wishing to include the festival in their travel plans.

Kostel sv. Jiljí was built in 1772 in the Baroque, so-called Josephine style. The church has a baptismal font by an unknown artist depicting the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist with life-size figures.

Zámek Chropyně offers the public guided tours of its historic interiors. The rooms on the first floor of Zámek Chropyně present the history of Chropyně from prehistoric times to the present day. The second floor commemorates the painter, sculptor and graphic artist Emil Filla, who came from Chropyně. Thus, the castle brings together the town’s long-reaching history and the memory of a significant person from Chropyně in separate areas of its interiors.

Another historical trace is the legend of King Ječmínek. It probably reached Chropyně through the Ludanicer family, which came from Hungary and owned Chropyně in the 15th century. The legend is connected with the Arpádovci, Hungary’s first ruling dynasty. In 2023, the Otevřené brány project opened ecclesiastical monuments in the Zlínský kraj region and offered guided tours with commentary.
