Karolín’s archaeological traces reach far back into prehistory. An almond-shaped hand axe from the Middle Paleolithic, made of reddish-brown radiolarite, was found in the surroundings of Karolín. In the area of Karolín, evidence of human presence dates back to the end of the Middle Paleolithic and the Upper Paleolithic.

History and culture

Further archaeological finds document Slavic settlement in the area of Karolín by the bearers of the Urnfield culture, dating from the 7th to the 9th century. Karolín was founded as a settlement in 1822. The settlement was named Karolínov (Karolinendorf) after its founder. Karolín has a chapel dedicated to Saint Florian and the Virgin Mary, which was built before the end of the 19th century. In 2022, the local chapel was completely renovated from the municipal budget. Culinary tradition

Karolín hosts the traditional slivovitz competition, or slivovitz tasting, “Karolín košt.” According to local tradition, cherries from Karolín were transported by train to the Vienna market.
