Holiday apartment in Zborovice: castle history and walk to the crypt

Culture
St. Bartholomew’s Church stands in Zborovice on the site of a former cemetery. Its cruciform layout and massive vault shape its architectural character. The church grounds also include statues of St. Florian and St. John of Nepomuk, which were relocated to the church. The church site therefore brings together the former use of the grounds, the sacred architectural form and the relocated statues of the saints.
History
The former fortress of Zborovice was converted into a Baroque château at the beginning of the 18th century. The New Château, a two-storey pseudo-Renaissance villa, was built next to it in 1891. It was designed by the Viennese architects Helmer and Fellner. The crypt of the Friess family, the former owners of Zborovice, stands at the highest point of the château garden. Thus, the former fortress, Baroque château, New Château and the Friess family crypt are named historical buildings and sites in Zborovice.
Local Life
Amateur theatre in Zborovice began in 1895 as the theatre section of Sokol. Traditional local events include a ball, a children’s carnival and a ceremonial Christmas tree lighting.
Since 2021, the Zborovice KČT local group has been looking after the local Hejtmanka spring. It cleans the spring several times a year, mows the grass and carries out necessary repairs. The local group also prepares routes, excursions and trips to tourist attractions in Czechia and Slovakia.
Getting There
There are two railway stations named in Zborovice for arrivals. Zborovice railway station is the terminus of a 17-kilometre branch line from Kroměříž. In addition to the terminus, passengers have also had the Zborovice-zastávka stop available for several years in the lower part of the town. Both names therefore belong to the local railway infrastructure but refer to different stations.
