Skaštice lies in the fertile plain of the Upper Morava Valley. On the outskirts of Skaštice lies Plavisko pond with a fishing hut and a picnic area. Right from the start, this places two characteristic local features side by side: the wide plain and a specific spot by the water.

Culture

St. Florian’s Church in Skaštice was originally built as a chapel in 1856 and expanded into a church in 1873. It is a rectangular branch church with a square tower above the façade and a sacristy arranged on the same axis; the church is owned by the municipality of Skaštice.

The local religious heritage in the municipality of Skaštice includes five stone crosses. There is also a statue of St. Anne in the municipality. House No. 18 in Skaštice has a restored original façade featuring motifs of Cyril and Methodius. The former school building from 1895 is also part of the local cultural heritage: it is a cultural monument.

Traditions

A Masopust carnival is held annually in Skaštice. Participants dress up as various figures, including members of the Skaštická chasa. Led by a bear, they go from house to house. Fishing competitions are also held annually in Skaštice.

The traditional Josefovský košt is one of the spring events in Skaštice. Traditionally, it was held on 6 April in an old inn and attracted not only locals but also visitors from surrounding villages. A competition for the best homemade spirit features homemade fruit brandies such as slivovice and apricot brandy, as well as other less common homemade alcoholic beverages.

On 30 April 2025, a traditional witch-burning event was held at Plavisko pond in Skaštice, featuring a children’s disco, attractions and sausage roasting.

Geography

Skaštice is located approximately 4 km from a major motorway junction providing connections to the north, south and west. A railway station on an international rail corridor with direct connections to Prague can be reached from Skaštice by car within 10 minutes.

The asphalt cycle path between Břest and Skaštice is just under 2 km long in total. The Skaštice–Břest cycle path was opened with a public ride.
