Holiday apartment in Zlobice – Church, Culture and Landscape

Zlobice combines a church from the late 19th century with small sacred monuments, archaeological traces and a distinctive landscape. The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius stands in the village and was built between 1897 and 1899 according to a design by the architect Leodegard Slovák from Kroměříž. The associated parish house is one of Zlobice’s landmarks and, together with the church, forms an important historical reference point for the village.

Culture

Several stone crosses and other small sacred monuments are located in the municipality of Zlobice. Zlobice is also home to a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes and a wooden cross. The Solanský Mill stood next to the parish house from 1916; it had a small power station.

The Ferdyšova theatre company is also part of the region’s cultural history. It was founded in 1989 in Bojanovice to preserve rural traditions. The company developed a village theatre and staged numerous plays and fairy tales at the inn in Bojanovice. Its productions were based on original or adapted scripts. On Větrák Hill, which separates Bojanovice from Zlobice, there is a monument to those who fell in the First World War, erected in 1920. The monument is crowned by a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

History

Archaeological finds show that the municipality of Zlobice was already settled in the Neolithic Age and during the Bronze and Iron Ages. In Hliník, a vessel from the Lusatian culture was uncovered at a depth of approximately one metre. Thus, alongside the visible architectural and small monuments, evidence of the area’s early settlement history is also a central feature of the village.

Landscape

Most of the built-up area of Zlobice lies on gently sloping terrain in the Litenčická pahorkatina. The Věžecký stream flows through the built-up area and has several right-bank tributaries. The southwestern part of the municipality of Zlobice lies within the specially protected area of European importance known as Troják.

The main road runs from Kroměříž through Zlobice towards Věžky and onward to Morkovice. A crossroad leads through Zlobice towards Popovice. These two roads form part of the described village structure and connect Zlobice with the places and traffic directions mentioned above.
