Holiday apartment in Míškovice – Church, Culture and Nature

The Church of Saint Anthony stands in Míškovice. It was built between 1922 and 1927 and consecrated on 29 June 1928. It was constructed according to a design by the architect F. L. Gahura, who came from Zlín. As a Constructivist building from 1927 designed by František Lydie Gahura, it is significant to the history of modern architecture. The church is listed in the central Czech register of immovable cultural monuments. The Church of Saint Anthony of Padua has an altar window depicting Saint Anthony, as well as a Stations of the Cross with high reliefs.

History

The historic village setting also includes the late Baroque Chapel of Saint Florian in Míškovice, which dates from the late 18th century and is listed as an immovable cultural monument. It stands at the crossroads of the roads to Mysločovice and Machová, next to the cemetery. The Míškovice cemetery was established in 1928 according to a design by František Lydie Gahura. The monument to the victims of the First World War stands in front of the cemetery gate. On the village square, the stone statue of Saint Joseph from 1895 commemorates another historical landmark. South of the cemetery, on the road to Mysločovice, stands the stone statue of Our Lady of Lourdes from 1891.

Křemenná near Míškovice also reaches far back into history: it is the site of a significant archaeological site from the older Stone Age. In addition, a burial ground of the Nitra culture dating from the beginning of the Bronze Age was discovered there.

Traditions

Local club life is reflected in recurring events. Every year at the end of summer, the Small Animal Breeders’ Association holds exhibitions of small animals. In Míškovice, the Czech Union of Gardeners organizes an exhibition of fruit, vegetables and flowers, as well as a tasting of slivovitz. On 4 May, celebrations in honour of Saint Florian take place in Míškovice.

Nature

The Kurovický Quarry natural monument lies in the vicinity of Kurovice, Tlumačov, Míškovice and Machová. Cycle Route No. 5271 passes by the nearby Kurovický Quarry; bicycle racks are available at the entrance. Between Míškovice and Machová, the Potoky pond complex and the surrounding field groves form a biocorridor and provide a habitat for many animals. In the cadastral area of Míškovice, the BK–25 biocorridor, with ponds N1, N2 and N3, was restored from 2000 onwards.
