Holiday apartment in Podhradní Lhota: castle ruins and mountain landscape
Podhradní Lhota lies at the foot of Kelčský Javorník, the highest peak of the Hostýnské vrchy. In the village and its immediate surroundings, prominent landscape features, traces of history, a chapel, a railway line and a cycling loop with several connections come together.
Landscape
From Šaumburk, there is a view of the ridges of the Hostýnské vrchy and the adjoining landscape. Kelčský Javorník is the highest peak of this mountain range, at the foot of which Podhradní Lhota lies. The village and the visible ridges are therefore clearly connected spatially, a relationship that can already be seen in the named landscape features.
History
Šaumburk is a castle ruin located southwest of and above Podhradní Lhota. It was built in the years after 1272 by the Olomouc bishop Bruno of Schauenburg. At Šaumburk, relief-like remains of buildings, ramparts and ditches have been preserved. The traces are therefore not limited to the name of the castle ruin but also include recognizable forms of the former structure.
Another named site is the Nový Šaumburk castle ruin, which is also incorrectly called Zubříč. It is located in the Bašta area at an elevation of 530 m above sea level, southeast of Podhradní Lhota. On the oval central area, remains of the outer rampart and a ditch, as well as sections of masonry, are clearly recognizable.
Culture
The restored Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary dates from the 19th century and stands near the bus stops. Thus, in addition to the castle ruins, a sacred building from a distinctly later century is also located in the village.
Connections
Podhradní Lhota railway station is located on line 303 between Kojetín and Valašské Meziříčí. All of the station’s platforms are accessible without barriers.
Cycling
The 32 km Tesák cycling loop via Troják runs through Podhradní Lhota.
From Podhradní Lhota, the cycling loop continues to Rajnochovice and then connects to Route 5120 and the Hostýnské vrchy educational trail.
