Culture and History

Chřenovice Castle was probably founded by Léva of Janovice before 1289. In 1545, it was considered abandoned. The Church of Saint Wenceslas is located on the southern edge of Chřenovice. The single-nave building is of Gothic origin and features preserved Romanesque elements; a prismatic tower stands on its western side.

In the wider surrounding region of Chřenovice are the ruins of Orlík and Želivský Kláštor Monastery. The churches of Loreta and Svatý Jan are also located in this wider surrounding region.

Landscape

Chřenovice Castle was built on a wooded rocky promontory; the Sázava flows along one side, with the Bystřice stream to the east.

Water

The SÁZAVA 11 (H) fishing area extends from the weir of the mill in Chřenovice to Matlašky near Vilémovice. Fishing from watercraft is permitted in this fishing area. Tourists and locals go swimming in the Sázava.

Paths and Connections

A tourist route marked in 1899 by the Club of Czech Tourists ran from Chřenovice Castle to Zruč nad Sázavou. A bridge over the Sázava allows passenger-car traffic and connects Chřenovice with Hněvkovice.
