Krucemburk combines historic religious buildings, tributes to art, protected landscapes and various routes through the surrounding area. The town showcases both a clearly defined cultural history and specific opportunities for excursions in the immediate vicinity.

Culture and History

The Catholic Church of St Nicholas in Krucemburk was built in the 13th century. Its Romanesque sacristy and the lower Romanesque section of the tower date from the same period. The presbytery and nave were built in the Gothic style in the 15th century.

The Protestant church in Krucemburk was built according to plans by Jan Wurm in the late Neoclassical Empire style; its foundation stone was laid on 13 June 1839. In addition to regular church services, chamber concerts are held there. Krucemburk’s square is also home to a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, which dates from the early 18th century and has stood there since 1845.

The Three Crosses were erected above Krucemburk in 1778 on the initiative of the priest J. Vrba. The Bink family crypt is also part of the town’s architectural and art history: it was built according to a design by the architect Josef Gočár and decorated with a sculpture by the sculptor Jan Štursa. Krucemburk has a total of 15 state-protected cultural monuments.

Art and Remembrance

The Jan Zrzavý Memorial in Krucemburk opened in 2002 and is located in the Krucemburk Information Centre. It provides information about the artist’s life and work and contains extensive visual documentation, including reproductions of some important works.

Nature and Water

The Ranská jezírka ponds extend across 27.21 hectares in the cadastral areas of Havlíčkova Borová and Staré Ransko, which are part of the Krucemburk municipality. The area was designated a protected natural feature on 4 October 1990.

In the immediate vicinity of Krucemburk, swimming, refreshments and boat and pedal boat hire are available at Řeka Pond.

Routes and Activities

There are numerous marked cycle routes around Krucemburk. They mainly follow forest tracks or roads with little traffic. Prepared cross-country ski trails are available in Krucemburk for winter sports.

The route “In the Footsteps of the Partisans in the Žďár Region” offers a unique combination of cultural history and the regional landscape. It begins in Nové Město na Moravě and ends in Krucemburk. The 30-kilometre route is not a circular trail; the journey to the starting point in Nové Město na Moravě can be made by train, and the return journey from Krucemburk can be made by bus.
