History and Culture

The cemetery church Kostel sv. Markéty is the oldest surviving architectural monument in Golčův Jeníkov; it had already served its religious purpose in the 14th century. It preserves a Gothic portal and gravestones, the oldest of which date from the 16th century. The church was rebuilt in 1821 and reconstructed again in 1905.

The Jewish Quarter also points to a long history: the roots of Jewish settlement in Golčův Jeníkov date back to the end of the 13th century and the beginning of the 14th century. The first written mention dates from 1654.

Routes and Hiking

The Naučná stezka k Římovicím educational trail leads from the Linden Avenue to Římovice and includes ten stops. For Golčův Jeníkov, bus and train connections are listed on the Via Czechia – Centrální stezka pěší route.

Another connection with hiking is the Pochod kolem Jakubovic – Pupíku Evropy march. It took place for the 20th time in 2026 and included two routes that year; one of them started at the Golčův Jeníkov town hall.

The Krkanka and Bučina mountains are located in the vicinity of Golčův Jeníkov. The Na Hatích hill (Golčův Jeníkov–Římovice) is also located nearby.
