Štoky: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Štoky showcases its history through protected monuments, Baroque architecture, and memorial sites. There is also a cycle route that passes through Štoky, while Hanesův mlýn and a former educational trail preserve further tangible traces of the town’s history.

Culture

The Church of St James the Elder in Štoky is a protected cultural monument and has been documented in writing since 1372. The Empire-style House No. 61 is also protected. Other distinctive individual monuments include the stone Roland Column, dating from around 1500, and the Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from the first half of the 18th century. The year 1803 is engraved on the statue’s pedestal.

History

Štoky Castle was built in 1760 in the late Baroque style by the estate owner, Karel Josef z Palmů. It also became the administrative centre of the former Střítež estate. The Battle of Štoky Memorial commemorates the fighting that took place in Štoky from 2 to 5 December 1805. It stands on Road No. 38 between Štoky and Antonínův Důl and was ceremonially unveiled on 1 July 2000.

Things to Do

The “Okruh kolem Jihlavy přes Polnou” cycle route runs from Kamenná via Štoky along a section of the blue-marked trail measuring just under 9 km to the Pod Serpentinkou trail junction.

Hanesův mlýn was already in existence in 1756. The restaurant at Penzion Hanesův mlýn is open by prior arrangement only. An original educational trail led from the cemetery via Hanesův mlýn to the outdoor swimming pool; it originally had eight stations, but the information boards are now damaged and only three stations remain.
