Archaeological finds indicate that Vražkov is one of the oldest Slavic-settled municipalities in Bohemia.
History and Village Centre
In the centre of Vražkov, J. Kratochvíl built a Baroque chapel in 1763 and donated it to the municipality. The chapel also serves as a war memorial and contains a plaque with the names and portraits of the inhabitants who fell in the First World War.
A cross dating from 1846 stands in the village square; a bell tower was added beside it in the 1920s. In Škodův statek, the remains of the walls of a Gothic fortress have been preserved in the cellar. The fortress stood on the site of the present-day building and was completely destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War.
Paths and Landscape
From Vražkov, you can hike eastwards past the shooting range and along the Čepel stream to Průšův mlýn. In the direction of Mnetěš, a walking path leads to the Mnetěšská alej educational trail, which continues to Ledčice and HistoryPark Ledčice.
A yellow-marked KČT hiking trail leads from Vražkov over a rocky slope and past the Pražská vyhlídka viewpoint to the summit of Říp. At the foot of Říp, a red-marked circular trail branches off, with an educational trail around the mountain.
The Hřbitov zvířat is located in the cadastral area of Vražkov at the foot of Říp, on the road from Vražkov towards Rovné, and has been in operation since 2003.
Nature and Nearby Surroundings
On the steppe slopes of Vínek near Vražkov, a record of narrow-leaved flax (Linum tenuifolium) from 1956 has been documented at an elevation of approximately 230 metres.
In the vicinity of Vražkov lies Svatý Jiří, a church. The surrounding area also includes Zámek Ostrov, a castle, as well as Vidrholec and Sovice, each a mountain.
Wider Regional Area
The wider regional area around Vražkov includes the Theresienstadt concentration camp and ghetto, a historic site. The ruins of Hazmburk are also located there, as well as Boušov, a mountain, and Hořice, a mountain.
