Chodouny: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Chodouny is characterized by its regular, enclosed development around the square village green. It is a type of village known as an Angerdorf, whose origins, along with the first written references, date back to the first half of the 13th century.

Village Center and Architectural Heritage

A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on Chodouny’s landscaped square village green. The Baroque work from the 18th century stands on a pedestal featuring a relief of the Mother of God. The architectural heritage also includes the rural property No. 15: it is listed as an immovable cultural monument and is a single-story building with carved wooden ornamental framework.

History and Culture

Archaeological finds indicate that Chodouny was already inhabited during the Lusatian culture. A memorial stone commemorates the first written reference to the village.

In Lounky, the Church of Saint Nicholas is a rare example of rural Gothic architecture. Its existence is documented as early as the 12th century; the oldest surviving masonry dates from the first half of the 14th century. The church was remodeled in the Baroque style in the 17th century. The classic Czech film musical “Starci na chmelu” was also filmed in Lounky in 1964. A monument with a commemorative plaque next to the former school building commemorates the victims of the Second World War.

Nature

A black pine (Pinus nigra) in the southern part of Chodouny’s municipal area has been designated a commemorative tree since 1996. The protected black pine outside Chodouny stands alone in a cultivated field and is more than 200 years old. The Elbe is also a defining landscape feature of Lounky.

Getting Around and Around the Village

A section of the Elbe Cycle Route, Labská stezka, runs through Chodouny and connects Roudnice nad Labem with Litoměřice. Bus route 684 also connects Roudnice nad Labem, Chodouny, and Litoměřice; in Chodouny, there is a bus stop on the village green.

For local shopping and services, the village has grocery stores, a restaurant, and a post office.
