Velemín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Velemín lies in a picturesque valley below the summit of Milešovka and is a gateway to the landscape of the České středohoří. The entire area surrounding the town lies within the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area, which has more than 500 km of marked hiking trails.

Landscape

Part of Milešovka is designated as a national nature reserve. It protects forest ecosystems on the slopes of the distinctive trachyte cone, as well as rock and scree communities. Milešovka is also home to a 19 m-high observation tower offering views of the surrounding landscape.

At Boreč, the unique phenomenon of ventaroles is particularly observable in winter. The Boreč educational trail begins in the village of Režný Újezd below the chapel and comprises nine stations and two viewpoints.

Hiking

The picturesque Opárenské Valley is approximately 6 km long and stretches from Velemín to Malé Žernoseky. The Opárno Mill serves as an environmental education centre.

A green-marked hiking trail leads around Milešovský rybník, connecting Velemín and Milešov and making it suitable for hiking and cycling trips. One possible route to the ruins of Oparno Castle leads from Velemín along a green-marked hiking trail through the Opárenské Valley.

Culture

The ruins of Oparno Castle lie north of the village of Oparno in the cadastral area of the municipality of Velemín. The 553 m-high mountain Ostrý, of volcanic origin, lies between Milešov, Velemín, Kocourov and Březno; the ruins of Ostrý Castle are located on its summit. Its slopes are covered with mixed forest.

The Church of Saint Anthony of Padua in Milešov is a Baroque religious building dating from 1669–1680. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and belongs to Velemín in the Ústí nad Labem Region. The restored Kalvárie Chapel in Milešov is also a protected cultural monument.

The Gloriet is a Baroque garden pavilion in the park of Milešov Chateau. It was built between 1701 and 1708 by the then lord of the chateau, Jan Leopold Hrzán z Harasova, together with Italian builders.

Geographical location

Thanks to its proximity to the D8 motorway, Velemín is easily accessible; the D8 connects Prague with Ústí nad Labem and Germany.
