Nature

The Stráně u Drahobuzi site of European importance protects near-natural dry grasslands and scrub stages on calcareous ground. The Stráně u Drahobuzi locality presumably has the largest population of the fly orchid (Ophrys insectifera) in the Czech Republic. During a stay, nature, architectural history and the distinctive features of the local districts can be arranged side by side as different themes.

The natural side of Drahobuz thus combines a protected habitat with a particularly notable plant population. History

The fortified manor house of Drahobuz was first mentioned in 1374. At the end of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century, the old fortified manor house was converted into a four-sided Renaissance château. In 1878, Drahobuz château was demolished. House No. 2 formerly served as the château gatehouse. Wine was also grown in the local district of Břehoryje after the Thirty Years’ War; a commemorative oak tree named “dub u Břehoryj” stands there.

The history is spread across several chronological layers: the first mention of the fortified manor house, its later conversion into a Renaissance château and its demolition form a sequence, while the former château gatehouse recalls the historical use of a single building. In Břehoryje, the history of winegrowing adds another independent aspect to the character of the locality.

Culture

Drahobuz has vernacular wooden buildings—log houses and half-timbered buildings—from the 18th and 19th centuries. There are also 19th-century masonry houses in the Empire style, some with arcades and made of marlstone blocks. In the local district of Strážiště stands the Pseudo-Romanesque parish church of St. Wenceslas from 1865, with a tower visible from far away. The same local district has vernacular log, half-timbered and masonry buildings from the 18th. The local district of Lada has a community chapel.

For its architectural heritage, it is therefore worth looking not only at a single building, but also at the differences between wooden and masonry buildings, the Empire style and the Pseudo-Romanesque church. Strážiště and Lada add their own local connections. In this way, the history of the culture can be structured by building materials, styles and local districts without mixing up the individual examples.

The grounds of the former football field in Drahobuz include a multifunctional sports field, a 251 m long asphalt track, a children’s playground, a workout area, a fitness studio and a fire pit.
