Levín: Holiday apartments and houses

Levín may be the only place in the Czech Republic with uninterrupted ceramic production that has continued for 600 years. Historical Levín ceramics from the 17th and 18th centuries used floral motifs: they were applied with white slip to reddish-brown shards and covered with a transparent lead glaze. House No. 10 is the last preserved pottery workshop in Levín. At Hrnčírna No. 10, visitors can tour the workshop with its historic kiln and work at the potter’s wheel.

Culture

The individual ceramic workshops in Levín can be visited during fairs and events or at any time by prior telephone appointment. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Levín is registered as an immovable cultural monument. It is a circular central building; it was founded in 1788, burned down three years later, and was rebuilt in 1798.

Inside Levín’s bell tower there is a viewing platform. The ground floor of Levín’s bell tower was built in 1699 from masonry taken from the castle.

History

Near the summit of the rocky spur, the remains of a fortification wall and the remains of an unspecified square structure have survived from Levín Castle. According to archaeological finds, Levín Castle existed in the second half of the 13th century and may have disappeared in the 14th century.

Events

The Levíner Český jarmark combines ceramics with demonstrations of other crafts and a cultural programme. Since 2021, the Levíno event held in September has been one of the events in Levín; it is dedicated to regional winegrowers and refreshments.

Nature

A 9-kilometre hiking route to Sedlo can start directly in Levín; it initially follows the blue trail marking and then the green one.
