Velemyšleves: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

An archaeological site north of Velemyšleves is located in a former sand quarry on the left side of the road towards Most. The Velemyšleves site is the largest investigated settlement of the Knovíz culture in Bohemia.

Routes through the surrounding area

Cycle route 3034 runs through Velemyšleves along the Postoloprty–Výškov–Velemyšleves–Chomutov route. This cycle route has a stated total length of 27.93 km. The “Údolím říčky Chomutovky” route also runs along the Chomutovka valley from Velemyšleves to Chomutov.

Nature

About 800 metres southeast of the centre of Velemyšleves lies the northern part of the protected Natura 2000 site Stráně nad Chomutovkou. It protects fragments of saline meadows and xerothermic grasslands with rare halophytes.

Culture and history

A Neo-Romanesque chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony, dating from 1863, stands on the main road at the northern edge of Velemyšleves. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1746 stands by house number 90.

The farmyard of the former chateau complex contains a Baroque barn dating from 1736. At the site of the former chateau complex, a fortification from the 14th century was followed by a second fortification from the 16th century and then by a Baroque chateau. The former chateau complex lost its main building in 1989. Today, only the farm buildings and the park of the former chateau complex are protected as cultural monuments.

Since 2016, the Church of Saint Martin in Minice and its interior furnishings have been undergoing restoration.
