Nature and Landscape

The landscape of the Džbán region comprises flat forests, steep slopes, mountain ridges and rocks above deep valleys, with views of the Central Bohemian Uplands. The area around Panenský Týnec extends into Džbán Nature Park.

Pozdeňský les [Mšec] and Boušov are located near Panenský Týnec; both are mountains. The mountains Oblík and Srdov, as well as the ruins of Pravda, Hazmburk, Hrádek and Hradek Oltářík, are also located in the wider regional surroundings.

Monastery and Gothic Church

The former Poor Clare monastery was founded by Habart ze Žirotína and built by 1280 as the third Franciscan monastery in Bohemia. The unfinished Gothic church was probably founded by Plichta ze Žirotína; construction began around 1316 and remained unfinished after the monastery fire of 1382.

The presbytery of the unfinished church has been preserved. It is 21 metres long, 9 metres wide and more than 20 metres high. The monastery in Panenský Týnec is protected as an immovable cultural monument under registration number ÚSKP 43571/5-1295. Parking is available in front of the monastery grounds; access is also suitable for wheelchair users and prams.

Other Historic Buildings

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stood there by 1740 at the latest and was renovated in 1998. The burial site of Jan Tuscany is a Classicist-Empire tomb from 1800, crowned by a tall pyramid with a vase and sculptures.

The Church of Saint George preserves an older church core, received Baroque additions after 1722 and was further remodelled in 1904. It is not normally open to visitors.
