The 60-metre-high tower of St. Nicholas Church is the most prominent landmark of the city of Louny. Today, it is protected as a national cultural monument.
Culture and History
The Regional Museum in Louny offers two permanent exhibitions focusing on historical and natural-science topics. The natural-science exhibition presents the steppes of the Louny Highlands – a unique environment created through the interaction of nature and humans.
The Benedikta Rejta Gallery also reflects the city’s cultural richness: its collection comprises more than 18,000 objects. The House of the Sokolů z Mor features a striking architectural detail in the form of its massive Late Gothic oriel. A vaulted Gothic hall has also been preserved on the ground floor.
The Baroque Hospital was built from 1695 to 1698 according to plans by the Italian architect Antonio della Porta. It stands opposite the city fortifications, directly on the banks of the Ohře. At the Žatecká Gate, an inscription dates the gate to the year 1500; at the same time, it was part of Louny’s newer city fortifications.
Nature and Trails
The Louny–Zeměchy educational trail begins at the highest point of the city of Louny, near the waterworks, and has five stations.
Other places on the same level are Očihov, Úherce U Panenského Týnce, Ročov, Hřivice, Cítoliby, Želkovice, Brody and Blšany U Loun.
