Smolnice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Church of St Bartholomew in Smolnice is an immovable cultural monument. Its present appearance probably dates back to a reconstruction around 1700; the first written mention of the church dates from 1355. In the cemetery surrounding the Church of St Bartholomew stands a sarcophagus of the Lukáš family, designed by A. Wiehl in 1878.

Culture and Architectural History

The Baroque manor house in Smolnice associated with Antonín Wiehl was remodelled in Neo-Renaissance forms in 1886 and decorated with sgraffiti based on designs by Mikoláš Aleš, a relief frieze by Josef Václav Myslbek, and casts of two Myslbek medallions. The Wiehl Villa in Smolnice is also associated with Antonín Wiehl; it was built as a Neo-Renaissance villa in 1898. It features sgraffiti, four large ceramic medallions with ancient motifs, and a richly carved wooden balcony.

History

On 23 May 1420, several thousand horsemen and infantrymen from the areas around Louny, Žatec and Slaný assembled in Táborec near Smolnice before setting out together for Prague. Dating back even further is the Neolithic settlement of the Linear Pottery culture in Smolnice; finds from this culture have been documented throughout the municipality.

Nature

Smolnice lies on the border of the „Přírodní park Džbán“ nature park, designated in 1994.

Trails and Transport

A green-marked hiking trail runs through Smolnice and connects Vinařice, Smolnice and Brloh. Public transport in Smolnice is based on bus services; the routes are established, and the stops cover the built-up part of the village.

Events

The „Hudba ve Smolnici“ concert series offers regular concerts of classical and sacred music by Czech and international composers. The traditional public afternoon festival Pichlovanka was scheduled to take place at the Smolnice Cultural Centre on 7 June 2026.
