Petrohrad: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Petrohrad combines a striking castle ruin with wooded paths, historic buildings and a diverse rocky landscape. The ruin of Petrohrad Castle stands on a wooded rocky promontory above the municipality of Petrohrad. Petr of Janovice is said to have built the castle at the end of the 14th century.

History and Architectural Heritage

The Chapel of All Saints was built on the model of the ancient Maria Rotunda, or the Roman Pantheon. Count Heřman Černín of Chudenice had the chapel built on Zámecký vrch as a lasting memorial to his rescue. The Petrohradský park also reflects the history of the area: it was created at the end of the 18th century by Jan Rudolf Černín.

Paths and Views

The Chapel of All Saints is located in the old part of Petrohrad. The stone-lined forest path Cesta českých svatých leads there and continues as a hiking trail. As an educational trail, Cesta českých svatých leads from Petrohrad through the Háj Petra Bezruče grove to the summit with the Chapel of All Saints. From the viewpoint near the chapel, there are views across the Ústecký, Karlovarský, Plzeňský and Středočeský regions.

Háj Petra Bezruče features granite outcrops accessible via a walkable tourist trail. The grove is home to habitats and species of wood-dwelling insects, particularly the beetle Osmoderma barnabita.

Park and Rocks

The walk through Petrohradský park is signposted with tourist markings and freely accessible, allowing visitors to put together their own circular route. The Stezka zdraví in Petrohradský park comprises three signposted circular routes of varying lengths and difficulty. These include a measured 500-metre route and a 2-kilometre circuit for recreational runners.

Petrohradské skály are a popular destination for climbers; bouldering guides are also available there.

Visiting

The Chapel of All Saints is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. from April to September. On Saturday, 9 May 2026, the second edition of the Pivního pochodu, organized by the VEEV association, took place in Petrohrad.
