Koštice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the centre of Koštice village square stands the parish church of Saint Anthony of Padua, a late-Baroque sacred building dating from 1752. The church is registered as an immovable cultural monument and is classified as an example of 18th-century Baroque architecture.

Culture

On the lower village square in Koštice stands the Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1729. The modern abstract sculpture Život – Letnice was created in 2013 by woodcarver Jan Švadlenka from a dead tree.

History

The present location of Ortův Mlýn on the Ohře is documented in a written record from 1574. Ortův Mlýn is considered the first automatic mill in Bohemia and is now a hydroelectric power station. The Ortův Mlýn power station formerly supplied electricity to the mill, street lighting throughout Koštice and households.

The Neo-Gothic-Baroque chapel Kaplička u přívozu was built in 1846 by the Zinke family from house no. 14. Zvonička u přívozu was built in January 2014 in memory of the mass tragedy of 1764, when people drowned while crossing the river on their way back from a church service.

Nature

The small Koštice–Křesín educational trail was created in 2012. It begins at the church in Koštice, leads across the lower village square and along the Ohře through Želevice and the wetlands near Koštice, and ends in Křesín.

The Koštice Nature Monument is home to the largest population in terms of individual plants of black-spiked sedge (Carex melanostachya) in Bohemia. Subhalophilous plant communities occur there on waterlogged and loosened sites in flooded meadows.

Getting Around

Lávka svobody is a simple bridge for pedestrians and cyclists over the small millrace. Karfíkův dvůr offers bicycle rental with tourist equipment, including child seats and child trailers.
