Žiželice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Žiželice reveals its history in specific places: at the Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, at a Baroque stone cross and in a field name that recalls the former cultivation of wine. There is also an outdoor swimming pool, events at the sports complex and connections to regional routes.

Culture and History

The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Žiželice was built in 1660 and remodelled in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century. It underwent extensive restoration from 2013 to 2017. In front of House No. 23 at the junction with the road to Hořetice, there is also a Baroque stone cross dating from 1773.

A historical name also points to the past of the village: at the beginning of the 20th century, a plot of land in Žiželice was still called “at the vineyard”, documenting the former cultivation of grapevines.

The Church of St Lawrence is located in Hořetice u Žiželic. It contains valuable late Gothic plaster layers and was originally a single-nave Gothic building. At the same time, it is an important source for researching the development of medieval ecclesiastical architecture in this area.

Summer and Local Life

Žiželice has an outdoor swimming pool, which is also used in summer by people who do not live in the municipality. Children’s days were held at the sports complex in 2024 and 2025; another Children’s Day was announced for 27 June 2026.

Getting Around and Regional Routes

Žiželice has both a bus stop and a railway halt for local transport connections. Near the municipality of Stroupeč, a section of the Ohře Cycle Route with a new bituminous road surface has been completed; it lies on the route between Nechranice and Žatec. Přívlaky and Stroupeč are located on Stage 4 of the Ohře Cycle Route, with the route listing extending to Žatec.

Nature in Stroupeč

Stroupeč is home to semi-natural dry grasslands and shrub formations on calcareous substrates. The area is one of the most important sites for thermophilic and xerophilous invertebrate fauna. A nature trail through the surroundings of the settlement leads to a group of protected sessile oaks.
