Skalice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The medieval village centre of Skalice, around the present-day château, is designated as a UAN-2 area with archaeological finds. The château itself was built at the beginning of the 19th century on the site of the former Chapel of St. Vitus as an Empire-style building with a chapel wing around a rectangular courtyard.

Culture

The château served as a summer residence for the Lords of Bítov; since 1954, it has housed a retirement home. The granary in Skalice dates from the early 19th century and is a prominent landmark of the region. The chapel on the hill above Skalice also dates from the second quarter of the 19th century. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk at the new bell tower dates from the late 18th century. A second statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on the Class II road west of Skalice.

Landscape

The château park of Skalice is an English landscape park along the Skalička stream; the Skalička stream flows through Skalice. A 35-metre-tall maple-leaved plane tree stands in the park.

Nature

The Skalické kopečky are botanically significant sites of dry steppe grasslands. In addition to the highly endangered large-flowered pasque flower, they are also home to numerous Red List species.

Events

The Sraz veteránů vintage car rally is held regularly on the grounds of Selský dvůr Skalice.
