Strachotice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Strachotice combines evidence of ecclesiastical architecture with a long winemaking tradition and the history of water management on the Dyje River. The village’s historical development, sacred buildings and significant waterworks create a multifaceted picture of the place.

History and Architectural Heritage

The Church of St George in Strachotice was built in 1744. The protected heritage complex includes a mortuary, the associated grounds, an enclosing wall and a gate. After the fire of 1776, the church was soon restored.

Strachotice was elevated to market-town status in 1342 and granted privileges. In the local district of Micmanice stands the Baroque Chapel of the Holy Angels, where services are held.

Water and Technology

Strachotice developed at an important ford across the Dyje River. The millrace on the Dyje is a significant technical monument and probably dates from the 13th century. In the 16th century, it was extended through Slup as far as Jaroslavice.

The watermill in Micmanice was first mentioned in 1302. The watermill currently houses a small hydroelectric power station.

Wine and Cycle Paths

Strachotice has a long winemaking tradition. The marked Česko-rakouská příhraniční trasa cycle route passes through the village. The Prague–Vienna long-distance cycle route also runs through Strachotice.
